Morbid obesity is a major problem in the United States. People who are morbidly obese can develop serious health problems such as diabetes and heart problems. Like any other disease morbid obesity needs to be treated otherwise it can lead to very serious problems.
Persons who are morbidly obese can reduce their health risks if they choose to make healthy changes. By simply cutting back portions and eating better a morbidly obese person can reduce thier risks. Keeping a food journal is a good way of keeping track of how much and what a person eats as well. It will also allow a person to see what they are really putting in thier body.
After keeping a food journal for a couple weeks you can take a look at it and figure out the foods you are eating that are bad. Also you can asses how often you are overeating. Food journals are a great way of making a person aware of what is really going into thier body.
If you are morbidly obese it is important to break up your meals and speed up your metabolism. By eating small meals about 5-6 times a day a persons metabolism will speed up, helping with weight loss.
Along with diet, exercise is a key component as well. Exercise can help in reducing morbid obesity. Physical activity aids in weight loss and overall better health. The proper amount of weight loss should be about 2-3 pound a week.
Sometimes morbid obesity is at its most serious stage and diet and exercise isnt enough. In this case some people resort to drugs or even surgery. When having bariatric surgery a patient must already be suffering from health problems. The surgery helps reduce a persons weight but they must also continue to exercise and eat healhty so they dont regain the weight.
Morbid obesity is a concern with children as well. The rate of obesity is greatly rising among adolescents. Children need to learn good diet and exercise at a young age to prevent morbid obesity in the future.
